Appeals Malawi Urgent Appeal Help save children suffering from malnutrition A devastating malnutrition crisis is unfolding among children enrolled in our programmes in Malawi. Children like four-year old Yosefe. Yosefe was diagnosed at birth with asphyxia and later, cerebral palsy. He can’t walk or talk. His physical disabilities mean he struggles with feeding. Rising inflation means that the family are no longer able to afford basic foods such as maize. Tragically, last year, Yosefe was diagnosed with malnutrition. Before receiving food supplementation, Yosefe’s weight had dropped dangerously below 7kg but since feeding him his weight has increased to 11.3kg, thanks to the miracle that is Tadzuka Lunda Phala. We use Tadzuka Lunda Phala (a food supplement made from soya beans and sugar) to provide at-risk children with adequate nourishment. It has a texture like porridge, so even children like Yosefe, who struggle with more solid foods, find it easy to eat. And it provides malnourished children with the nutrients they need to reach a healthy weight. We desperately need more. There simply isn’t enough to meet demand. Growing numbers of children are showing signs of stunted growth, weakened immune systems, and developmental delays. Without an urgent increase in supplies, there’s a real risk we will lose the children we can’t currently feed. Make a donation today to help us meet the growing demand and feed more children.
